When Daisy Midgeley arrived in Coronation Street she was gutsy, flirty and fun. Now Daisy, played by Charlotte Jordan, 28, is a shadow of her former self after her stalking drama culminated in a horrific acid attack.

But Charlotte is hoping Daisy’s spirited personality will eventually return. “That was one of the main things that drew me to Daisy at the start,” she says. “And now that all of this relationship stuff has blown up in her face, she’s literally got nothing left to lose. Hopefully, that side of her is going to come back.

“She’ll think, ‘I spent two years trying to be the best version of myself, and it got me nowhere – so I may as well just do whatever I want whenever I want.’ It’s great because you get to say all the things that you would never normally say in real life because you wouldn’t dare.”

Charlotte is referring to the love triangle involving Daisy, Daniel and Ryan. Daisy is engaged to Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) and they were almost married until her stalker Justin Rutherford (Andrew Still) ruined their big day. Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) saved Daisy from Justin’s attack, but in the process became a victim himself.

“Daisy goes round to tell Ryan how proud she is and how wonderful he is,” says Charlotte. “Before you know it, one thing leads to another – and inappropriate things happen for a woman who is soon to be wed to another.”

It’s not the first time Daisy has cheated on Daniel with Ryan. They shared a kiss after the court case which saw Justin go down for his assault. But Charlotte isn’t surprised by Daisy’s actions.

“It was inevitable really. It was very clear from how much they were bonded after the acid attack, so this day was always going to come. Sure, in an ideal world Daisy would stay faithful and she would understand that it’s a trauma bond and not true romantic feelings. But at the same time, it’s Soapland and you’ve got to have some fun with it. You can’t be too well behaved.

“Daisy really cares about Ryan. She has attached herself to his recovery. She’s unhealthily involved in his life and is ignoring and disregarding herself – and I’ve got to watch her self-destruct from a distance.”

Daisy fears the game may be up when her fiancé Daniel knocks on the door after she’s been intimate with Ryan. Later, Ryan and Daisy find themselves being blackmailed by Lauren Bolton, played by Cait Fitton.

“Daisy’s filled with pure panic, pure fear, it’s like a bucket of cold water over her,” says Charlotte. “She’s back to reality and it dawns on her the gravity of what she’s done. Daisy’s constantly trying to put out fires. She is exhausted, she is overwhelmed and is trying to keep her head above water. She doesn’t want Daniel to find out because she does love him.

“What Daisy should have done is come clean about the kisses she’s had with Ryan and explain to Daniel how confused she is. At that time Daniel might have been quite understanding about it. Now, in true Daisy fashion, she’s gone about it in quite a deceitful way – she’s made her bed and now she’ll have to lie in it.”

What comes with big storylines is a heavy work schedule, so what does Charlotte do to unwind?

“Oh, I’m really boring,” she admits. “I’ll clean the house, walk the dog. I’ll go get some pastries. I’ll read a book – I’m very low-key. I think my dog Olive and I are ready for a countryside cottage break ready to mind our own business and learn to bake.”

Charlotte dotes on Olive, who is a firm favourite with the rest of the Corrie cast too. “I sneaked Olive into the building once,” she says. “Everyone loved it. I’ve never had so many visitors to my dressing room. She lifted everybody’s spirits. But we’re not supposed to bring dogs in, so I shouldn’t have done that.

“Maybe Daisy should get a dog. She’s going to be alone and broken up with before long so she’ll need a puppy to cheer her up.”

Charlotte has no plans to leave Coronation Street any time soon, but confesses she has an idea what she would like to do if the time came to say goodbye to the cobbles.

“I’d love to do a period drama, maybe around the 18th century,” she reveals. “Actually, do you know what I watched recently? Daisy Jones & The Six, so even something from the 70s – that period seems fun.

“I love doing something where you get to learn and it would mean more stunts and more action,” she adds. “Something where they teach you different things on a job. I had to learn an accent for this.”
