Supermarket Aldi is notoriously known for having cashiers who scan your shopping fast.

However, if you were thinking about using a self-checkout in Aldi, fellow customers shared a warning as they claim there's an 'error' to the system. If there's one thing the supermarket is known for, it's their competitive prices.

However, many Aldi customers are claiming that promotions aren't automatically added to purchases on the self-checkout machines. Instead, it seems like they need to be added on by a member of staff.

This means a lot of Aldi shoppers may have been losing out on the best bargains – but many would be completely unaware.

Writing Facebook group for Aldi fans, one person wrote: "Any discounts don’t automatically apply on the self-checkouts. You have to ask a human employee to take the discounts off manually. This applies for % off stickers and any multibuys etc. I don’t know if this is common knowledge."

Looking at the reaction of other group members, many were already savvy to this, as one person wrote: "I’ve had a few missed then realised!" Others insist Aldi should put up signs to tells customers about this issue, with one even branding it 'disgusting'.

When approached for comment, Aldi told Mirror that employees do need to manually input discounts at the self-checkout tills. But they said that feedback on the self-checkouts had been 'overwhelmingly positive'.

The spokesperson also urged anyone who thought they'd been wrongly charged to get in touch with customer services. Daily Star has contacted Aldi for further comment.

Aldi checkouts are known to cause a fuss among shoppers, with many others moaning that Aldi cashiers on normal checkouts scan their shopping too fast. A former Aldi worker explained why cashiers go at such a fast speed back in 2021 as they posted on Reddit: “Former Aldi cashier here. You actually have to hit a percentage of 83% or higher on item per minute scanned."

The person added: "They would get upset if you didn’t get 95% or above. Some cashiers I worked with would hit 110%. Less than 5% on voids and you had to hit the suspend key at least once to pause the transaction. Had to be 100%, but I would get like 150% because I would pause the transaction if the person was putting stuff too slow.

“Also, had to have less than three seconds when starting a new transaction. If you ever notice, they always put the item to be scan by the scanner, then unsuspend it. You can get a 0 seconds between customers.”

When someone asked for clarification on the percentages they added: “The way I took it was: 60 seconds in a minute. If I scan 60 items in a minute, that should be 100%. 83% is what Aldi wants. My store wanted 95%. If you didn’t meet the 83%, you went to a training class. After that they could fire you. That’s why they go so fast. They’re literally being timed."
