Shoppers say this £9 SPF serum is great for acne-prone skin and works well under makeup
Everyone knows that SPF is an absolute must when it comes to your skincare regime, and is an essential step for protecting your skin and preventing sun damage and signs of ageing.
However, applying regular suncream to your face can clog pores and leave your skin feeling oily, whilst even some skincare-specific ones can cause your makeup to pill, leave you with breakouts, or create a residual white sheen on your skin – all of which aren’t ideal when you’re heading out and about.
However, Boots shoppers think they’ve found the answer to all your face SPF woes, with the Garnier Ambre Solaire SPF 50+ Super UV Invisible Face Serum, £9.33 here (was £14).
Rather than having the usual thick, creamy consistency of most sunscreens, the Garnier SPF is in a serum formula, meaning it applies just like other skincare serums as part of your daily routine.
The SPF 50+ serum offers high protection against UVA, UVB and long UVA rays, as well as fighting against external aggressors and pollution, and its ceramide-enriched formula helps reinforce and protect your skin barrier.
You don’t need to worry about it showing through your makeup or leaving a white cast on your skin either, as its invisible fluid texture is more lightweight than regular SPFs, becoming immediately invisible on all skin tones after you put it on, and is non-sticky, non-greasy so shouldn’t affect your skin’s regular appearance.
Shoppers have been raving about the Garnier Ambre Solaire SPF 50+ Super UV Invisible Face Serum, £9.33 here, on the Boots website.
“Tried this on a friend’s recommendation as I was fed up with greasy, streaky white high factor for my face – great and sinks in much better than some more expensive brands I have tried. Also does not 'peel' when you put foundation on top,” said one shopper, whilst another wrote: “Amazing! Love this as it goes on so much easier and there is no residue! Would definitely recommend x”
Others were thrilled with how well their makeup applied over the top, saying: “Absorbs so easily and makeup glides straight on after. Provides instant protection. I applied first thing in the morning then topped up with the Factor 50+ over makeup spray and I avoided sunburn even while on holiday.”
It works on all skin types too, so you don’t need to worry about breakouts, with one reviewer writing: “Great cream for acne prone skin. It’s light to apply with no white cast. It drys matte which is great as I found on other sunscreen made my already oil skin look too shiny.”
Although it has plenty of rave reviews, some shoppers found the price a little high for the size of the 30ml bottle, with one saying: “I like this but disappointed that is only comes in 30ml bottle and is very expensive. i can’t afford 2 or 3 bottles a month in the summer.”
However, the Garnier Ambre Solaire SPF 50+ Super UV Invisible Face Serum, £9.33 here, has now been reduced from £14 to just £9.33 in the Boots sale, with customers currently able to save ⅓ on Ambre Solaire products.
If you’re not willing to splash out on a whole new step in your skincare routine, you could consider buying an SPF-infused product, like the Revolution Skincare SPF15 Nourishing Moisturiser, £8 here (was £10), that does twice the work in one go.
Whichever you prefer, don’t forget your daily dose of SPF – yes, even on cloudy days!
