LIKE most people, do you bin your coffee grounds after making a fresh brew?
If so, stop. You can repurpose them in many ways, helping to reduce landfill, and save cash at the same time.
If you don’t use fresh coffee, ask your local baristas for their waste — and follow these ideas . . .
PLANT FOOD: Rich in nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus, grounds are a nutritious feed for many plants.
You can tip a little into the soil of house plants.
Or add to a compost mix, along with other kitchen ingredients, to create food for plants.

SCRUB UP: Coffee grounds can benefit the skin so use them to make your own body scrub.
Rub straight on or mix with coconut oil.
Anna Brightman, co-founder of UpCircle skincare, says: “The fine coffee grounds act as a natural exfoliator, helping to buff away dry and dead skin.
“The caffeine in coffee helps stimulate blood flow, making it effective against skin conditions such as acne, eczema, cellulite and stretch marks.”

MEAT RUB: Old coffee grounds can also be used to tenderise meat, especially steak.
Ian Patterson, from independent coffee roasters Little Fin, says: “The used grind doesn’t overpower the flavour of the meat as most of the coffee flavour has been used while making the brew.”
He recommends making a rub by drying out the used coffee, then adding a variety of different spices including salt, pepper and thyme.
Add the rub to beef and store in the fridge to allow it to marinate overnight.
Cook as normal and the rub will create a tasty crust to your meat.
PIRATE MAPS: Slightly moist grounds can also be rubbed on to paper, to make it look aged and create a fun play prop for children.
After the paper is dry, draw a map where X marks the spot, and ask kids to look for the treasure.
