Jorgie Porter shares details on 'scary' surgery as she lost unborn quads
Hollyoaks star Jorgie Porter has opened up about the surgery she had to undergo after miscarrying quads.
The Theresa McQueen actress welcomed her son Forest with Ollie Piotrowski in November 2022, but his birth followed a tragedy when Jorgie lost her quadruplets at 14 weeks in 2021.
During the latest episode of Giovanna Fletcher’s podcast, Happy Mum Happy Baby, Jorgie has been discussing becoming pregnant with quadruplets and the emotional ordeal she went through after being told the embryos had stopped developing.
‘We obviously thought, this is a huge risk. There’s all these complications and all these scary moments of what could happen’, she explained.
‘I don’t remember them [the doctors and nurses] talking much about quads, because they’d never come across this! I don’t think they had much to say to us about it but we’d obviously Google stuff, and you just see the most extreme things. You can lose one, you can lose two, and then they spoke about terminating one and terminating two and I thought, I am not going to take one away from a pack.’
‘It was about three or four months later on in the scans, they were like, “now they’ve not developed any further, we’re going to have to get rid of them, take them out.’
Discussing the surgery that followed, Jorgie said: ‘They gave us four options and explained the risks are really high. They said that we could wait for them to release on their own but I thought, I can’t be on set and a floodgate opens!
My hormones were insane so, you just want to get them out. I told them I wanted to go under surgery and be unconscious and just wanted to not be traumatised by this moment.
‘They had to talk to us about how dangerous it is because they didn’t know how much blood I would lose. They said there’s a chance I might not survive, this was really sad for me as well because nobody knew what was going to happen. It was really scary. We wanted the womb to be intact as well because we still want to try for a baby.’
She added: ‘It was a pretty massive, daunting day but I felt confident we just had to do it and be strong.’
In the aftermath, Jorgie made sure to support partner Ollie, who struggled to open up about the loss of the babies.
‘We were arguing and stuff’, she said.
‘I said to him, you have to tell me what you’re feeling and thinking because you keep it in a bit at times. He let loose and told me everything. It’s not just me, the mum, that’s been through this, Ollie as the dad has suffered loss. He’s not able to do anything physically, emotionally, it was a helpless position to be in and he felt like he couldn’t say anything at the time.’
Jorgie also spoke to Giovanna about the moment she fell pregnant with Forrest, revealing that the ordeal with the quads understandably impacted her reaction to the news.
‘I told friends and family around us and they were a bit on pins because no one wanted to get excited for us. I thought, okay, we can’t really tell everyone again but I told my closest friends as I needed the support.
‘We had to get to the milestones before I let us get excited. I remember Ollie going, let’s go to the Trafford Centre and get a baby grow! I felt like a bit of a fraud. I was like, I don’t know. But I had a big bump, and I was waddling and then thought, it’s time to do these things.
‘We got the baby grow and a blanket. And I was like, “Oh my god. Okay, I think we can get excited!”.’
