A Place In the Sun’s Jasmine Harman staggered as ‘cheeky offer’ gets accepted
A Place In the Sun couple shocked as offer is accepted
A Place In The Sun’s Jasmine Harman and her house hunters were stunned when their lowball “starting point” offer on a retirement property was accepted – despite being €17,000 less than the asking price.
The presenter and the couple were genuinely amazed when what they described as a “cheeky offer” of €172,000 was accepted without any haggling, despite the starting asking price on the property being around €189,000.
Lesley and Clive were searching for a property on the Algarve in Portugal where they have been holidaying for most of their married life. With retirement looming, they were hoping to purchase a holiday home for themselves, their four children and two grandchildren on a budget of £190,000.
As they met with Jasmine they had certain stipulations about what they required saying that they needed at least two bedrooms, ideally a house with access to a pool and in close proximity to bars and restaurants so they could walk home in the evenings.
However, they agreed that an apartment would be OK once they weren‘t in a “massive development”.

Although Jasmine showed them several stunning properties none of them were ticking all their boxes.
It eventually came down to the final two properties that she showed them – a bungalow and a townhouse, both of which had roof terraces.
After deliberation, they agreed that, although the bungalow would be great for them on their own because the family would be visiting, the townhouse made more sense.
“We’d like to make an offer. A cheeky offer,” Clive told Jasmine. “I think we’re going to start with a low offer and see how it goes.”
Asked why he was proposing a price so much lower than the asking, he explained: “The little compromises we had to make. It’s in a bigger development and the development wasn’t as attractive as the property before. I thought it was a good starting point.”

Jasmine called the agent with the offer but since she had to run it by the owner the couple had to endure an anxious wait before she got back to them.
In a tense scene, Jasmine’s face gave away nothing as she kept them guessing before saying: “She says that if you can move quickly they’ll accept your offer.”
Clearly stunned, Clive double-checked that she meant €172,000. When Jasmine confirmed this he grinned saying “I think that’s a steal.” Admitting that he wasn’t expecting that he then quipped that they should have gone in at €168,000.
“Be happy with what you’ve got, “ Jasmine chided him. “That is absolutely amazing. I am actually in shock.”
A Place In The Sun airs on weekdays at 4pm on Channel 4.
