Call The Midwife’s Helen George promises fans will ‘weep’ over emotional Christmas special
Helen George has promised Call The Midwife fans "a quick weep" in the show's emotional Christmas Day special this year.
Cosy drama Call The Midwife traditionally airs a festive special on Christmas Day on BBC One, and Helen confirmed it would be back in its usual schedule slot when she stopped in to Friday's Lorraine show.
The actress, who plays Trixie Franklin in the period drama about midwives and nuns in London's East End, told show host Ranvir Singh that fans could expect the episode to pull on the heart strings again this Christmas.
Confirming the episode had already been filmed, Helen, 39, said: "We filmed it June, in the hot weather.
"It's just a lovely, lovely festive feast. It's a great series coming forward. There's some wonderful writing as ever by Heidi (Thomas).
"It's a really fun Christmas special but with those beautiful emotive moments that you expect, to have a quick weep on Christmas Day."
Helen, who confirmed the new full series was already filming, also laughed over a visit to the Call The Midwife museum where she was mistaken for a member of staff by a fan – having recently said that she thought the fan assumed she was a Trixie impersonator.
The museum gives fans a peek behind the scenes for loyal viewers of the show, but despite Helen being one of its most recognisable stars, one fan did not realise who she was when she turned up in costume to film there.
She said: "We were filming at the Chatham Dockyard which is where the Call The Midwife museum is – which is crazy in itself – and I was mistaken for a tour guide and asked which way the toilet was.
"I love it, I was like yeah, just go down there and turn left."
The new series could be a weepy one for Helen's character Trixie, as it was recently rumoured that Olly Rix who plays her husband Matthew Aylward had been axed from the show.
No details of an exit storyline have been given, but a TV insider told The Sun: "The news of Olly’s departure has left the cast and crew stunned and upset.
"They all thought he was a mainstay on the series after his prominent wedding scenes to Helen last season. Some feel it’s a bit unfair and he is well-liked by everyone."
