Coronation Street legend signs up for Dancing On Ice – going head to head with S Club and Gogglebox stars | The Sun

A CORONATION Street legend has signed up for Dancing On Ice and will go head to head with S Club and Gogglebox stars.

Liverpool actress Claire Sweeney will be taking to the ice this year, alongside Hannah Spearritt from S Club and Stephen from Gogglebox.

A show source said: “Claire is going to be the first big name to be unveiled for Dancing On Ice.

“She is a really talented performer and is pretty decent on the ice already.”

The star plays Cassandra 'Cassie' Plummer on Corrie, who is the long-lost mother of Tyrone Dobbs.

But her big break came a long time ago, when she landed the part of Lindsay Corkhill in Brookside in 1989.

In 2001 she appeared in the first series of Celebrity Big Brother alongside Jack Dee, who won the show, Anthea Turner, Vanessa Feltz, Chris Eubank and Keith Duffy.

The show, which was in aid of Comic Relief, ran for eight days. Claire came in second place.

Claire was also in Benidorm, and played a ‘no-nonsense’ ground crew worker at the airport of the Spanish resort.

Her character ruffled a few feathers, starting with the Dawson family who she came face to face with as they tried to board a plane back to the UK.

She starred alongside her former Brookside co-star Kate Fitzgerald who played cougar gran Loretta on Benidorm.

But it’s Brookside that Claire is best known for, after playing her Lindsay role for ten years.

She then left the show and worked as a singer on P&O cruise ships for four years before returning to the UK.

She reprised her role in Brookside and stayed on as Lindsay until 2003 when the show was axed by Channel 4.

Claire was a regular on Loose Women from 2003 until 2005. In 2004 she appeared in the first series of Strictly Come Dancing and finished in fifth place out of eight contestants.
