Corrie’s Samia Longchambon and Jane Danson ‘heartbroken’ over TV axe decision
Coronation Street stars Samia Longchambon and Jane Danson have been left heartbroken after hearing the news ITV is axing its kids' channel, CITV.
Samia, who plays Maria Connor in the soap, took to her Instagram to share the news as she said the channel was such a good platform for young actors which will now no longer exist.
In her post, Samia shared a snap from her days acting on show The Ward back in 1995, along with the caption: "It’s sad to hear that CITV is closing as a channel.. I’ve got special memories of working on some of its shows.
This #throwback is from #TheWard 1995 (previously Children’s Ward) .. how many of you are old enough to remember that?! Can you spot @realjanedanson @officialdannydyer and myself?? *i may have tagged them but no cheating."
Corrie pal Jane, who plays Leanne Battersby, also shared her sadness at the news as she wrote: "Absolutely heartbreaking. It [was] such a brilliant platform for us as young actors and produced some amazing shows. Such a shame."
One fan replied by saying: "I love children’s ward I wish Children’s ward was on ITV hub."
While another fan stated: "Awww such a lovely photo – My mum #kaymellor & #PaulAbbot created Children’s Ward. In our dining room. Launched so many wonderful actors careers."
A third penned: "Children's TV is screwed. Used to live getting home from school and putting CBBC or CITV on. Now what? More American nonsense? Children need home grown entertainment."
Somebody else noted: "The 90s and very early 2000s was the peak of humanity. I'm so glad I grew up in a time where we all enjoyed coming home from school ready to watch great programs (no streaming). Children's hospital of course! SMtv live, zzzap, art attack, sooty and Co etc. unfortunately now it's all about quantity not quality."
CITV was one of the most well-known kids channel for decades alongside its rival on the BBC called CBBC.
The channel was first set up by its parent ITV all the way back in 1983 and ran daily from 6am to 9pm right up until now.
It has been well-known as a good initial stepping stone for young actors who have gone onto work on other TV channels.
The channel came to show many staples of kids TV such as Art Attack, Horrid Henry and Bob The Builder.
