A couple has spent thousands of pounds decorating their house to mark Remembrance Day with silhouettes of soldiers and giant light-up poppies.

Jackie North and her husband Sean, 37, from Lincolnshire, first decorated their home to mark Armistice Day in 2022 – and decided to go bigger and better this year.

Their home is now adorned with 12,000 red lights, silhouettes of soldiers and a giant light-up poppy on their garage door – and it has been known to stop traffic.

Ms North, a school kitchen assistant, said: ‘We did Remembrance last year but we didn’t have anywhere near as many lights.

‘We had a poppy on the tree and in front of the garage with some lights.

‘This year we have doubled our show to make it a lot nicer – we love lights so we keep adding more.’

Th pair say they have spent around £8,000 on their Remembrance Day display – but stress it is worth it because everybody thinks it is ‘beautiful’.

Ms North said: ‘We wanted to pay our respects in our own way.

‘It is really important we remember, we are here because of what the older generation did for us.

‘Everyone loves the lights, we have had quite a few visitors last night – there has been a lot of traffic.’
