Doomsday prepper who built her own BUNKER in anticipation of nuclear war reveals she has spent a staggering $75,000 stockpiling supplies that her family can survive on in ‘any disaster situation’
- Rowan MacKenzie, a doomsday prepper, has spent $75,000 on supplies
- The 38-year-old became a social media sensation for sharing her bunker
- The war between Israel and Hamas has made her up the ante
A doomsday prepper, who has built a bunker, has revealed how she spent $75,000 to prepare for a nuclear disaster amid ongoing wars across the world and the soaring cost of the living crisis.
Rowan Mackenzie, 38, became a became a social media phenomenon after revealing she’s been prepping her home for 12 years because of fear of an emergency and has upped the ante, spending a whopping $75,000 on supplies as a result of the intensification of issues in the world – including the war between Israel and Palestine.
The Missouri-based homemaker has taken extreme measures in the past few years to prepare for the end of the world, with her frequently making headlines by showing the tour of her hidden bunker.
Now, with several wars and a strain on the economy across the globe, the ‘prepper’ has taken new measures to ensure her family is kept safe – and has spent over $75,000 on her stockpile in total.

Rowan has taken extreme measures in the past few years to prepare for the end of the world
The 38-year-old began stocking up her cupboards 12 years ago and initially, bought long-life essentials, such as beans and rice, which she taught herself to preserve through trial and error.
As her stock grew, the homemaker spent over $10,000 on having the underground space built into the basement of her home, where she keeps food and water, as well as defense weaponry.
She explained: ‘I’m preparing as a whole, for war, inflation, nuclear disaster and all-out chaos.
‘The price of everything has gone up so much and I need to ready myself, as well as my family, for any disaster situation.
‘Our stock should last us a year or more [once used and not replenished] and I’ve had new plans made to build a second bunker in case one is compromised.’
Rowan claimed most of her stock will last up to 25 years and she has a ‘flawless’ rotation system to ensure there isn’t any waste.
With the recent outbreak of war in Israel and Palestine, as well as the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the mom-of-three noted that it’s as important as ever to get geared up for any scenario.
For Rowan, this means updating the system she already had in place.

She warned everyone that they should have the most basic prepping supplies on-hand, such as weaponry, first aid items, and long-lasting food, including rice and beans
She explained: ‘I’ve got a new hydroponics system, which is a technique of growing plants using a water-based nutrient solution, rather than soil.
Can you ever be too prepared? Rowan’s intense plan to prepare for nuclear disaster
- In addition to building a bunker and stocking up her cupboard in the past 11 years, Rowan has spent an additional $20,000 on food.
- She purchases many long-lasting food items such as beans, rice, chips and rice cakes.
- Rowan’s has also spent nearly $10,000 on weapons and has noted her number one piece of advice is for everyone to purchase weapons to defend themselves and to use for hunting.
- Rowan has also begun ‘practicing’ scenarios with her family and testing out which food products she can easily cook, are the best to eat, and which last the longest, so she knows what to stock up on.
‘I’ve updated our electricity and plumbing, as well as our weaponry stash. The bunker has been fully furnished to feel like a “home away from home” and we’re in the process of getting a clean air system installed.
‘My food stock is forever replenishing, as we also eat daily from it to prevent spoilage, but we’ve added another year’s worth to it already.’
Although her family doesn’t celebrate Christmas, they have planned for prices hikes around the holiday season – especially with the cost of living rising.
Although inflation had decreased in the past few months, it still remained high and sat at 7.1 per cent.
According to consumer data firm Dunnhumby, one-third of households are skipping meals or reducing their portion sizes to save money.
Researchers found that 18 per cent of the survey’s 2,000 participants noted they weren’t getting enough food to eat.
Furthermore, 31 per cent of households have reduced their portion sizes due to empty pantries as a result of rising grocery store prices.
In addition to food costs, millions of people across the country lack a financial safety net.
According to researchers, 64 per cent of participants admitted they wouldn’t be able to raise $400 in an emergency.
Many have suffered due to inflation, which has caused the prices of basic goods to skyrocket – including the prices of meat and poultry up by 10.4 per cent, cereal up 15.1 per cent, and fruits and vegetables up 8.1 per cent.
Gas prices are another point of pressure for many people around the country, up nearly 60 per cent over the past year, with the cost of airfares up more than 34 per cent and price of used cars up more than 7 per cent.
Apparel costs are up by 5.2 per cent, overall shelter costs went up 5.5 per cent and delivery services have gone up 14.4 per cent.
The mother does not often show off her weapons on TikTok – which has strict regulations about the kind of content that can be shown – however she has multiple guns in her possession (seen in cases), as well as ammunition

Rowan noted that people should start collecting various items now.
‘Start saving food, weapons and water, which will help you survive any disaster – even the increasing costs. That one extra canned or boxed good each time you shop will add up and you’ll be grateful for it later.
‘You also need to protect yourself, especially in a “dog-eat-dog” situation. My friends and family think I’m crazy, but when the time inevitably comes, they won’t be calling me crazy then,’ she explained.
Rowan frequently advises people to stay calm in the event of an emergency, however, plan for the worst case scenario.
She explained: ‘My biggest advice; don’t panic. Breathe, make a list and execute.
‘There is no better feeling than knowing you are ready for anything that could happen and having your family protected. The main thing is to remain calm and have a plan.’
She has also suggested you stock up on weaponry.
She said: ‘The number one must for any bunker is defense. I would highly recommend having a few guns and knives in your bunker at all times, along with ample amounts of ammunition.’
Rowan has intensified her prep to ‘protect’ her family because there is ‘no better feeling’ then knowing they are safe and she isn’t sure of what’s to come
Rowan has even begun ‘practicing’ scenarios with her family and testing out which food products she can easily cook, are the best to eat, and which last the longest, so she knows what to stock up on.
The ‘prepper’ has upped her ante due to the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine, which began when the Palestinian militant group Hamas launched an attack on Israel on October 7.
Hamas noted that the attack was in response to a blockade on Gaza and Israel declared a state of war the following day, making it the most significant escalation in the area since the Yom Kippur War.
The jaw-dropping number of civilian deaths has led to both Israel and Hamas being accused of war crimes.
More than 1,400 people have been killed in Israel, with 6,900 others injured. Over 10,800 people have been killed in Gaza amid Israel’s effort to root out Hamas.
According to ABC News, further escalation of the Israel-Hamas war could ‘send gas prices above $5 a gallon, trigger an overall surge of inflation and plunge the U.S. economy into a recession.’
Last year, Rowan began stockpiling due to the war between Russia and Ukraine.
While many people have been left impressed by Rowan’s videos, she does occasionally receive backlash from those who have accused her of ‘hoarding’ or promoting ‘panic buying’
In February of 2022, Russia evaded Ukraine in a major escalation of the war that began in 2014.
The invasion resulted in Europe’s largest refugee crisis since World War II and caused over 7.6 million Ukrainians to desperately flee their country.
United States and European allies have imposed sanctions on Russia such as a ban on Russian energy imports, which is the most restrictive ban ever imposed against a major economic power.
The sanctions target Russia’s financial system and fossil fuels and are meant to be a punishment for Putin and those who support him and depend on the Russian economy, making it near impossible to conduct business as usual in Russia.
These sanctions mean economic slow down in other countries as well, which is why Rowan has began prepping her family for what could possibly come as America has been facing food shortages and inflation.
The doomsday prepper has made headlines in the past after revealing she had a hidden bunker installed into her home and believes it necessary to prepare for the end of the world.
Rowan began stocking up her cupboards 11 years ago and initially, bought long-life cupboard essentials, such as beans and rice, which she taught herself to preserve through trial and error.
The war made Rowan realize she needed to prep more and added: ‘The day is upon us where being prepared is a blessing, as food is disappearing and becoming overpriced due to the war
In a bid to educate others about the importance of prepping, she regularly uploads videos on TikTok.
In one of her most viewed clips, which has racked up 422,700 views and over 34,000 likes, she gives a tour around her secret bunker.
Across the video, the text reads: ‘It’s called preparation not hoarding!!!’ as she walks around the stocked-up room.
Rowan begins with saying: ‘I was just told that I was a hoarder and it’s people like me, who make it hard for others to feed their children because I’m taking all the food off the shelves.’
She then asks people to do their research before making these comments, classing her efforts preparing, not hoarding.
She ends the clip with saying: ‘There’s a huge difference – I’m here to inform, I’m a good person, I’m a really giving person and I would never do anything to prevent a mother from feeding her child.’
