Strictly’s Bobby Brazier ‘glad’ over co-star Amanda Abbington’s shock exit
Strictly Come Dancing’s Bobby Brazier has said he is “glad”, after it was announced that Amanda Abbington and Giovanni Pernice will not be returning after they missed Saturday’s show.
The news was confirmed during Strictly: It Takes Two on Monday, 24 October, and this morning Bobby and his dance partner Dianne Buswell appeared on Lorraine to talk about the series on Tuesday, ahead of Halloween week.
However, during the interview host Christine Lampard spoke to them about Amanda’s shock decision to leave. Dianne said: "We are going to miss her a lot in the competition."
Bobby then added: "I'm still going to go to hers and have dinner," with Dianne explaining that the pair had spoken about that before Amanda's exit.
The EastEnders actor then continued: "She's lovely, but I'm glad she's doing what she wants."
A spokesperson for Strictly Come Dancing has said: “Amanda Abbington is unable to continue in Strictly Come Dancing and has decided to withdraw from the competition. The show wishes her all the best for the future.”
Giovanni broke his silence on the news shortly after it was confirmed. Taking to Instagram the 33 year old said: “Amanda .. I am so sad we can’t continue but I am proud of what we achieved and I am sending you so much love @amanda_abbington74 @bbcstrictly.”
Amanda is yet to comment on her departure, but her fiancé Jonathan Goodwin shared a cryptic post on his Instagram story.
Alongside a mirror selfie, he wrote: "We can be so hard on ourselves…be our own worst critics…
"But before you judge yourself… make sure your mirror is clean."
Amanda, 51, and Giovanni pulled out of their performance on Saturday, 21 October, and that was addressed at the start of the show.
Host Claudia Winkleman explained: "Now as you may have noticed, Amanda and Giovanni are missing from the lineup. Due to medical reasons, Amanda is unable to perform this week.
“Strictly Come Dancing protocols mean that all being well, Amanda and Giovanni will return the following week. Amanda, we hope you get well soon my love, sending you all the best wishes!”
Later in the interview on Lorraine, Dianne teased what fans can expect from their Halloween routine on Saturday night, as he said: "Bobby’s hips are back! We saw a lot of hip action in the Samba and we’re going to see more hips this week."
Bobby then joked: "They [the hips] did surprisingly well."
