Emmerdale viewers spot blunder as Chas Dingle befriends the mysterious ‘Simon’

Harry Threatens Caleb On Emmerdale

The latest episode of ITV soap Emmerdale saw the return of a dangerous character but under the guise of a new name.

Fans were quick to take to social media to point out the blunder surrounding his reappearance.

Chas Dingle (played by Lucy Pargeter) has been struggling with grief as the anniversary of her daughter Grace’s death approaches.

And in Monday night’s episode, it looked as though she may be getting herself into something unexpected after making a new acquaintance.

Viewers watched as an inebriated Chas took a complete stranger, a man named ‘Simon’ home with her. And he ultimately slept on her sofa after he made out he had too much to drink that evening.

However, several fans were baffled by the entire situation.

Taking to X, previously known as Twitter, one viewer commented: “Did I miss something? Why is he sleeping on the sofa? Just go home!”

A second said: “As if you’d let a random bloke you’ve just met sleep on your sofa.”

While another picked up on a possible error: “Lovely to see this new guy is going to sleep on the sofa and Chas getting him a duvet… As the light pours through the kitchen window.”

A fourth fan concluded: “Why does baldy need to stay on her sofa?? Bit weird- she chatted & flirted with him for an hour and is now providing bed & breakfast. Surely he already had a place to go, i.e. home.”

This isn’t the first time that the man going by the name of ‘Simon’ has appeared on-screen.

Fans may remember local gangster Harry (played by Robert Beck) who left Chas’ half-brother Caleb Miligan (William Ash) for dead and with a number of broken ribs after he refused to let the criminal hide guns at his car business.

He also attempted to hurt Chas’ brother Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) too. And when ‘Simon’ was left on his own in The Woolpack’s living space, he picked up a framed photograph of Chas and her brothers.

The following morning Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) bumps into ‘Simon’ as he is leaving the pub but Chas refuses to discuss his overnight stay.

When Paddy later tells her that Eve wants to live with him, it is ‘Simon’ that she turns to, with tears running down her face.

Could Chas be about to find herself in danger’s way as ’Simon’ uses her to get to her brothers? Fans will need to tune in to see how it plays out in upcoming scenes.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
