Grace Dent’s co-star Gregg Wallace shuts down rumours about her Im A Celeb exit
Gregg Wallace laughed heartily when asked whether Grace Dent could have quit I’m A Celebrity in protest over the quality of the food.
Talking of her gruelling jungle experience at the Rose d’Or Awards this evening, he dismissed the suggestion that her palate couldn’t handle the rice and beans rations.
“She’s been a restaurant critic for years and years – she’s eaten some really bad food! That won’t have been it,” he insisted to Express.co.uk and other publications.
“I’ve stood beside her while she’s cut into semi-raw chicken – there’s no way that [the jungle] would’ve put her off!”
Jokes aside, he expressed concern for his MasterChef co-star, revealing he’s unsure of the real reason why she left and “hopes she’s okay”.

Meanwhile, Gregg let slip that he hasn’t been keeping up with Grace’s I’m A Celebrity action much this year.
Despite co-presenting a string of shows, including Masterchef, Celebrity Masterchef and Masterchef: The Professionals with Grace, it turns out that the food expert isn’t a big fan of television himself.
“I don’t watch a lot of telly, I read history books – I’m quite boring really!” the 59-year-old Peckham native chuckled.
Gregg was attending the Rose d’Or Awards after his Channel 4 comedy show The British Miracle Meat, which delves into the world of lab-grown meat and features an appearance by Michel Roux Jr, was nominated for a gong.

However, he found time to share his insights about Grace on the red carpet today, whose “broken” appearance after her show exit reportedly remains a cause of concern for many of her nearest and dearest.
A source had previously told The Sun: “Grace is hugely relieved to be out of I’m A Celeb. She pulled the plug because she couldn’t carry on, mentally or physically.
“It has been incredibly difficult for her and it all became too much. The cold and wet weather, coupled with the punishing tasks and lack of food took its toll.”
The increasingly desperate star reportedly lost weight due to the strict camp rationing system, and reached out to co-star Josie Gibson in frustration.
She told the This Morning star: “I’ve had enough. I’ve completely had enough. I just want to go home.”
The last straw seemingly came after she found out she was one of the stars nominated for the dreaded Down The Tubes Bushtucker Trial at the weekend – and before it could take place, she bowed out.
Grace admitted in the Bush Telegraph: “I haven’t got a lot left in me at the moment. I’m just keeping on a face for everybody.”
She’d also required the attention of a medic after a cockroach crawled into her ear and became lodged there, an experience which the alarmed foodie described as “not nice”.
A spokesperson from the show revealed that Grace had left on “medical grounds”, stating: “She has been a great campmate and will be missed by her fellow celebrities and viewers alike.”
