A millennial podcast host has sparked a debate after revealing the ‘controversial’ fashion method she uses to identify Gen Z women.

Phoebe Parsons, from Queensland, shared that she simply looks at a woman’s feet to discern if they’re wearing ankle or pull-up socks.

‘Gen Z exclusively wear their socks up and millennials wear ankle socks,’ she said in a video.

Phoebe shared that she’s tried to do the ‘Gen Z pull up socks’ but always changes into ankle socks ‘immediately’ after.

Gym socks came back in vogue in 2020 after people started working and exercising from home – and the trend is apparently here to stay.

Many millennials swore their fealty to ankle or no-show socks.

‘If [Gen Z] had been as aggressively bullied over the smallest hint of socks as we were, they’d never dare,’ a woman said.

‘Firm believer ankle socks are a better look,’ another added.

‘The thought of socks up gives me the shivers,’ a woman wrote.

‘My daughter is Gen Z and she’s socks up and asks me to stop buying ankle socks,’ a mum shared.

One revealed: ‘I wore socks up to the gym one day and I felt like they looked so bad. Every time I saw myself in the mirror all I could see were the socks.’

While others claimed the trend might not be so clear cut.

‘I’m 1997 and my sister is 2003 and I’m the one that wears the higher socks and she likes her hidden socks,’ a woman shared.

‘Millennial here and I wear socks like Gen Z! I don’t like when the no show socks slip down,’ one added.

‘I’m a millennial but I like my socks up!’ another wrote. ‘Hate ankle socks. My shoe always eats the sock.’
