Loose Women’s Denise Welch breaks silence on death hoax ‘My insides fell out’
Loose Women: Denise Welch breaks silence on death hoax
Loose Women star Denise Welch, who rose to fame on Coronation Street, admitted she felt like her insides had fallen out when she discovered she was the victim of a death hoax.
Speaking with her Loose Women panellists on Tuesday afternoon, Denise began: “Someone had changed my Wikipedia page, you know that ridiculous thing where anyone can go into Wikipedia and change it?
“It’s stupid, but anyway someone did. I had to invest in the humour of it because I was so riddled with nerves about this concert and I thought, ‘I can’t be anxious about this.’
“It was predominantly taking place on Twitter, but it was going viral.”
She revealed her partner told her about the death hoax, telling her: “Darling, I don’t want to panic you but you are trending on Twitter.

“My insides fell out. And I had a look and it was #RIPDeniseWelch and then I read the Wikipedia bit and it said that I had been run over by a mobility scooter driven by an ex-Big Brother contestant called Terry who was a makeup artist for the traveller community.”
She said it became a viral meme, with rumours circulating that she was having a state funeral at Buckingham Palace in a horse-drawn carriage.
However, reflecting on the situation, Denise said: “If you are well-known enough to have a death hoax then it is a badge of honour.”
Her colleague Ruth Langsford told the actress she had taken the hoax in “very good spirit” before the conversation took a more serious turn.
